- From the data. Each fact is computed from the Ember annual statistics on this site: the highest share of a fuel, a fall in carbon intensity, a source overtaking another, demand per person and similar comparisons. Nothing is written by hand.
- Comparable. Rankings only count countries that generated at least 10 TWh, and every figure uses each country's latest year, named in the fact.
- Frozen once posted. A fact never changes after its day, even when the data is later revised. The next data refresh can only change future facts.
