Data Sources and Licences

Every data source used on World Power Monitor, with its licence, attribution and what it covers.

U.S. Energy Information Administration

Hourly demand, generation by energy source and interchange for US balancing authorities, plus state generation and retail prices.

Ember

Annual and monthly electricity generation by fuel, demand, net imports, power sector emissions, carbon intensity and installed capacity for every country and world region.

ENTSO-E Transparency Platform

Cross border physical flows and, once cleared, load, generation by production type and day-ahead prices for European bidding zones.

How Sources Are Chosen

A dataset is published only when its licence clearly allows reuse on a free, advertising supported website with attribution. Sources whose terms restrict commercial reuse, or whose terms we have not been able to confirm, are not used, even when the data is publicly visible elsewhere.

Every page names the sources behind its figures in a source line next to the data, with a link to the licence. If you represent a data provider and see a problem with how your data is credited, the methodology page explains how figures are processed.
