About World Power Monitor

World Power Monitor answers plain questions about electricity for 215 countries: how much is generated, which fuels it comes from, how much carbon it emits, and how that has changed over the decades. It is written for readers who want a clear answer and the numbers behind it, not for traders or grid engineers.

Each page starts with the answer, lists the key facts in short sentences, and shows the underlying figures in charts and tables. Every number names its source and the year or month it describes.

A data pipeline collects published statistics, checks them against a fixed list of countries and fuel categories, keeps a record of every revision, and rebuilds the site from the results. The methodology explains the rules, and the sources page lists every dataset used and its licence.

The site is free to use. It may carry advertising in future; advertising never changes what the data says.

World Power Monitor is the electricity counterpart of World Oil Monitor, which covers oil and natural gas prices. Natural gas often sets the price of electricity, so the two are designed to be read together.
